NEW LONDON, N.C. -- The Anderson University men's golf team battled windy conditions to fire a 308 and take third place after the first round of the Johnny Palmer Memorial at the Old North State Club Monday. Anderson was led by Adam Sheriff with a 73. He was followed by Ryan Sprayberry and Kurt Owings, who both shot 78, and Kenny Shockley with a 79. Methodist University is the first-round leader at 299, and Newberry is in second place at 305. The second round will be played Tuesday morning.
