Men's Golf Team In Second Place

MOORESVILLE, N.C. -- The Anderson University men's golf team is in second place after the first round of the Atlantic Regional Monday at The Point Golf Club. Host Belmont Abbey shot 294 to take a nine-shot lead over Anderson (303). Coker is third at 306, Barton is fourth at 307, and Mount Olive and Fayetteville State are tied for fifth at 311. Two of the top three players in the individual standings are from Belmont Abbey. Connor Tomlinson of Belmont Abbey was the only player in the 45-player field to break par with a 2-under 70. Joe Campbell of Belmont Abbey and Jimmy Gilliam of Coker are tied for second at 72, and Adam Sheriff of Anderson is fourth at 73. Sheriff, a junior from Anderson, recorded two birdies in his final five holes to finish 1-over. Anderson other three scores in the first round were Kenny Shockley 76, Kurt Owings 76, and Will Ferguson 78. Shockley made four bogeys on the front and one birdie and one bogey on the back for his 4-over score. Owings had an up-and-down round -- four birdies, four bogeys, and two double bogeys. Ferguson suffered two triple bogeys on his way to a 6-over round. The second round of the 54-hole event will be played Tuesday morning. Atlantic Super Regional -- First Round
