Tusculum Takes First Round Lead In AU Tourney

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Tusculum posted four scores at par or better to take the lead after the first round of the 2007 Anderson University Men's Invitational Monday at Brookstone Meadows. The Pioneers were led by Lawson George, who shot a 4-under 68 on the par-72, 6,700-yard Brookstone course. Following George for Tusculum were Chris Wynne 69, Chase Carroll 72, and Glenn Vickery 72. Tusculum's team score of 281 set a single-round tournament record. The previous record was 286 by Tri-County Tech in 2005. Catawba is second at 287, Mount Olive is third at 291, host Anderson is fourth at 295, and North Greenville is fifth at 296. Allen Tuttle of Catawba is the individual leader after the first round with a 5-under 67. Tuttle was 4-under on the par-5 holes and made an eagle on the par-4 first hole -- his 10th hole -- on his way to the first round lead. Tuttle's 67 ties the tournament record held by Dion Sirrianni of Lees-McRae, who shot 67 in the second round of the 2005 tournament. George is alone in second place with his 68. Wynne and Jonathan Greene of Mount Olive are tied for third with 69s, and Ryan Sprayberry of Anderson is fourth with a 70. Five players -- Carroll, Vicary, Brandon Coggins of North Greenville, Adam Sheriff of Anderson, and Todd Janssen of Catawba -- all finished at even-par 72. The second round will be played Tuesday morning. 2007 AU Men's Invitational First Round Results
