Dahlonega, Ga. – Young Harris (33-11) was able to preserve their lone run it scored in the bottom of the fifth inning to eliminate Anderson (30-13) from the NCAA Southeast Regional on Thursday evening at The Haines and Carol Hill Stadium.
"Extremely disappointing, but no doubt this team fought to the end, said head coach Tommy Hewitt. "We will miss these graduating seniors so much, Coach Child and I feel so honored to have been part of their lives."
The Trojans were able to work out of a jam in the fifth inning, using a double-play to end the inning to only allow one-run to score.
Both teams were stingy handing out hits, with Anderson and Young Harris collecting just three and four hits, respectively.
Senior Harlie Duncan (14-5) pitched a complete game. Duncan's gusty performance in the circle kept the Trojans within striking distance. She scattered four hits, while striking out three.
Young Harris's Sara King kept the Black and Gold off balance, pitching a complete game shutout.
The Trojans have won at least 30 games or more for the fourth straight season, with exception to last year's shortened CoVID season (16-4).
