Trojans Remain Unbeaten; Sweep Chowan

Anderson, S.C. – The Anderson University Softball team used strong pitching and timely hitting to win its third doubleheader sweep with two wins over nonconference opponent Chowan winning game one, 4-2, and winning the nightcap, 6-0 on Sunday evening at the AU Softball Complex. The Trojans improve to 6-0 overall, while the Hawks fall to 0-5-1.

"It was a bone cold rainy day and it was nice to walk away with two wins," said head coach Tommy Hewitt.

"Strong pitching and key hits, paired with good defense made for a good day," emphasized Hewitt.

"This team has so much potential," added Hewitt.

Game 1 Summary
Anderson 4  Chowan 2

The Trojans scored two runs right out of the gate beginning with a solo blast to center by junior Kayson Boatner. Senior Mattie Hamilton pushed across the second run of the first inning on a sacrifice fly. Chowan cut the lead in half scoring one run in the second inning. The Black and Gold answered back in the third on Hamilton's solo shot, while adding another lone run in the fifth inning. Senior Harlie Duncan (2-0) gave up six hits, six walks and struck out eight, working out of a couple of jams to win her second game of the young season.

KEY TROJANS

-Gracie Williams went 3-for-3.
-Kennedy Burton batted 2-for-2
-Morgan Charter went 2-for-4 with a double, triple and two runs scored.
-Mattie Hamilton went 1-for-2 with a home run.
- Taylor Faircloth batted 1-for-1.

Game 2 Summary
Anderson 6  Chowan 0

Anderson scored a pair of runs in the first, fourth and sixth inning to set the final score at 6-0. The Trojans hit three doubles in the game, scoring three of the six runs from them. Freshman Laken Maxwell (4-0) gave up just three hits, while striking out 12 batters. 

KEY TROJANS

-Boatner went 3-for-4 with a double, RBI and run scored.
-Jessica Neadow batted 2-for-3 with an RBI and 2 runs scored.
-Charter went 1-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI.

UP NEXT

Anderson will travel to nonconference opponent Flagler on Wednesday. First-Pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 12 pm.
