Softball Earns NCAA Southeast Regional Berth as the Fourth-Seed

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Anderson University softball team has earned a fourth-seed in the NCAA's Southeast Region and will face fifth-seeded Tusculum on Wednesday, as announced by the NCAA selection Committee late Sunday evening.

"There are 35 teams in the southeast region, with only 6 advancing to the NCAA South East Regionals, highlighted head coach Tommy Hewitt.  "In a region that's so competitive it's an honor to be ranked fourth among those 35."

The top-seeded North Georgia Nighthawks (37-5) will host the six-team field, with the fourth-seeded Trojans squaring off against the fifth-seeded Pioneers of Tusculum in Dahlonega, Ga., at The Haines and Carol Hill Stadium.

Lincoln Memorial, the No. 2 seed, and North Georgia have earned a first-round bye and will await the No. 3 (Young Harris)/No. 6 (Emmanuel) winner and No. 4 (Anderson)/No. 5 (Tusculum) winner, respectively.

Peach Belt member Young Harris has been slotted No. 3, while the Conference Carolinas Tournament Champion, Emmanuel, has earned the sixth-seed.

Wednesday's contest will mark the fifth overall appearance by Anderson with the Trojans winning its first ever Southeast Regional in 2013, before falling in the Super Regionals to Armstrong Atlantic. In 2019, AU lost to SAC foe Lincoln Memorial, 4-3, in the Southeast Regional Finals to advance to its second Super Regional in program history.

AU will square off against South Atlantic Conference foe Tusculum (28-10), who the Trojans split with during regular season play and was eliminated from the SAC Tournament semifinals by the Pioneers with a heartbreaking, 2-1, loss.
