Niles, Neidigh and Jones Earn All-Region Honors

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - After helping lead the Anderson University softball team to its third consecutive 40-win season, catcher Cailah Niles, second baseman Jessica Neidigh and freshman Chelsea Jones have been named to the 2015 Daktronics NCAA Division II Softball All-Southeast Region first team.

Niles was named First Team All-Conference and South Atlantic Conference Freshman of the Year at the conclusion of the season and owns the school record for home runs in a single season with 22. The freshman led the league in home runs, RBI, total bases and was second in slugging percentage, while ranking fourth in the SAC in walks, fifth in on-base percentage, and sixth batting average. The Phenix City, Ala., native ended the regular season as the only freshman in the nation in the top-15 nationally in home runs and the lone freshman in the country in the top six in RBI.

Neidigh, a senior, is a three-time First-Team All-Region honoree and earned All-Conference recognition all four years. The native of Lawrenceville, Ga. was a First-Team All-America selection following her sophomore campaign and led the conference in hits and runs scored and ranked in the top 10 in the conference in eight additional offensive categories. Neidigh was named to the initial NFCA National Player of the Year Top-50 Watch List and reached base safely during 26 straight games during the season, while posting hitting streaks of 14 games and an eight games during the season. She owns the SAC career hits record and SAC career runs scored record.

Jones saw action as pitcher, first baseman and designated player, while earning Second-Team All-Conference accolades at the conclusion at the end of the regular season. She tossed the first perfect game in the conference since 2006 and just the eighth in league history in early April and was named SAC Pitcher of the Week twice during the season. She ranked ninth nationally with four saves in the circle and ninth in the conference with three shutouts, while standing fifth in the SAC with 15 victories and 120 strikeouts. Offensively, Jones was third in the SAC with 30 walks, while posting an eight-game hitting streak and three four-game hitting streaks.

Fourteen student-athletes from eight different schools earned All-Southeast Region First Team distinction this season.

The University of North Georgia's Courtney Poole was named Southeast Region Pitcher of the Year, while her teammate Kim McMillan took Player of the Year Honors. Poole is 40-3 with a 0.92 ERA and 319 strikeouts over 281 2/3 innings this season. McMillan, a first baseman, hit .453 this season adding 17 home runs and 51 RBI.

Joining these two on the first team were Niles, Neidigh and Jones from Anderson, third baseman Sarah Magill from Young Harris, shortstop Alexis Burrell from Wingate, outfielder Danielle Bernstein and pitcher Marisa Boyette from Georgia College, outfielder Bri Lockett and utility [non-pitcher] Elayna Siebert from Carson-Newman, outfielder Kelsey Vining from Montevallo, and pitcher Carley Tysinger from Catawba.

The Peach Belt Conference (PBC) had 17 honorees on the two teams, while the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) had 10 and the Conference Carolinas had one.
