ROCK HILL, S.C. - For the second time this season, Anderson's Chelsea Jones has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon.
Jones tossed the first perfect game in the South Atlantic Conference since 2006 and just the eighth in league history in an 8-0 win at Tusculum last Tuesday, while going 2-1 on the week. The right-hander's outing marked the NFCA's unofficial 15th perfect game of the season and was in danger only once, as she went to a full count on just one batter.
Jones' lone setback came when the Trojans dropped a 1-0 decision at Catawba. In that contest, Jones nearly out-dueled former third-team All-America selection Carly Tysinger by scattering five hits over 6 2/3 innings, while posting a career-high 14 strikeouts and walking just one batter.
On the week, Jones struck out 26 batters, while walking just four in 16 2/3 innings of work and limited opponents to just a .167 batting average.
Offensively, Jones hit .421 on the week with eight hits in 19 at-bats, including a double and four runs scored. She walked twice and added a pair of RBI.
Jones leads the league with four saves and ranks sixth with a 1.98 ERA, while ranking fifth with 94 strikeouts on the season.
Following a Tuesday afternoon showdown with Carson-Newman, the
Trojans travel to Queens on Saturday for their final regular-season
road trip of the season.
