Former Softball Standout to be Inducted into High School Walk of Fame

ANDERSON, S.C. - Former Anderson University softball standout Meredith Knox is slated to be inducted into the Washington (N.C.) High School Walk of Fame on Friday night.

As an infielder, Knox played for Coach Tommy Hewitt's Trojans from 2007-2010, helping lead AU to 94 wins during her stellar career. She is one of four Anderson players to earn conference Freshman of the Year honors, as she claimed Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year accolades in 2007 after posting a team-high .410 batting average.

Knox played in 180 games during her four-year career, while earning Second-Team All-Conference honors as a sophomore and being named First-Team All-Conference in 2010. She was also named to the Conference Carolinas' All-Tournament Team following her senior campaign. Knox performed in the classroom as well, garnering academic all-conference accolades as a senior and was one of 11 players in the nation to be named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Softball First-Team. She was also named an NFCA Scholar-Athlete earlier that season.

Knox was the only North Carolina native and the lone representative of any school in South Carolina in either the University or College divisions, and carried a 3.90 grade point average while majoring in theology and religion. The 5-foot-9 shortstop garnered first-team all-conference recognition and was named to the Conference Carolinas' all-tournament team following a season that saw her rank in the top 10 in the conference in six offensive categories, including doubles, batting average, home runs, hits, slugging pct. and on-base percentage. She posted hitting streaks of 11-games, five-games and four-games during the season.

Knox holds the school record for doubles in a season with 18 and wrapped up her career second in AU's record books with 54 doubles. She ranks third in total bases (359) and runs scored (163), fourth with a .376 career batting average, 68 walks and 28 home runs. Knox is fifth in the record books with 213 hits and 20 stolen bases.
