Niles Earns Conference Player of the Week Honors

ROCK HILL, S.C. - Anderson freshman Cailah Niles has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference softball Player of the Week following her outstanding effort on the diamond last week, as announced by the conference office Tuesday morning.

Niles was a perfect 6-for-6 at the plate last Friday to help lead the Trojans to a sweep of Conference Carolinas' opponent Emmanuel College in a pair of five-inning decisions. The catcher blasted three home runs, a double and a pair of singles while driving in nine runs and posting a 2.667 slugging percentage, as Anderson defeated the Lions, 12-1 and 9-1, to improve to 11-3 on the season with seven wins in its last eight games.

Niles has started every game behind the plate and leads the conference with 21 hits on the season, including a league-leading seven home runs, and paces the SAC with 25 RBI and 46 total bases, while also leading the league with a 1.022 slugging percentage.

The Phenix City, Ala., native posted a run-scoring, first-inning single in the first game versus the Lions, while adding a two-run single in the second inning. She also added a two-run homer in the fourth inning.

Niles followed up with a pair of homers and a run-scoring double in the nightcap, while recording four RBI.

The Trojans return to action on Friday, March 6, welcoming Johnson C. Smith to Smethers Field for a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
