Trojan Softball Tabbed Sixth in Southeast Region

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Despite closing the regular season with six straight wins and claiming the second seed in the upcoming South Atlantic Conference Tournament, the 23rd-ranked Anderson University softball team slipped one spot and is ranked sixth in the Southeast Region in the NCAA's second weekly Division II Southeast Region rankings, as released Wednesday afternoon.

Anderson (35-11), is one of five teams from the SAC in the regional rankings, along with Carson-Newman (fourth), Catawba (seventh), Wingate (eighth) and Lenoir-Rhyne (ninth).

Peach Belt Conference-member North Georgia, ranked sixth nationally in the latest NFCA Coaches' Poll, tops the Southeast Region ranking and is joined by fellow PBC-members Georgia College, which is ranked eighth in the country, and GRU Augusta, which held the third spot for the second consecutive week. Carson-Newman remained steady at No. 4 in the rankings, with Armstrong moving past the Trojans to claim the fifth slot. AU is just behind in sixth, while Catawba vaulted into seventh after not being ranked a week ago.

Wingate moved up to eighth, while Lenoir-Rhyne fell two positions to ninth. Young Harris fell from eighth to 10th, with USC Aiken dropping out of the rankings.

The NCAA's regional rankings are scheduled to be released weekly on Wednesdays through April 29, with the NCAA D-II Tournament selections scheduled to be unveiled on Monday, May 4.

In the Southeast Region, the tournament champions from the South Atlantic Conference, Peach Belt, and Conference Carolinas will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, with five more at-large selections.
