DUE WEST, S.C. -- Erskine College swept a doubleheader from Anderson University Tuesday afternoon to capture the 2005-06 Anderson-Erskine Cup Sponsored by ARAMARK. Erskine won the first game 2-0 to claim the Cup and then completed the sweep, 4-2. With the sweep, Erskine takes an 18.5-13.5 Cup victory over Anderson. Erskine has won two straight Cups. The Lady Fleet improve to 19-17-2 overall and 8-6 in conference play, while Anderson falls to 19-28, 11-9. In the first game, the Fleet's first run came when Sharleen Ashby, who went 2-for-2, doubled in the second and scored on an error. Erskine's only other run came when sophomore Ashlee LaFontaine hit a solo homer in the fifth to give the Fleet a 2-0 lead. Elizabeth Miller pitched for Erskine allowing only three hits while striking out 11 in 6.1 innings of work. Kimberly Hannan took the mound in the top of the seventh with the bases loaded and struck out the next two batters to pick up a save. Stephanie Griffith took the loss for Anderson. In the second game, Hannan struck out nine batters and allowed just three hits. The Fleet were led on offense by LaFontaine, who ripped two solo homers. LaFontaine went 4-for-5 for the day, including three home runs. E. Miller also went 2-for-2 for Erskine. Hannah Webb and Ashby contributed one hit and one RBI each. Fallon Downs took the loss for Anderson, allowing nine hits and four runs. Both Anderson runs were scored on errors.
