CLINTON, S.C. -- The Presbyterian College Lady Blue Hose softball team (10-12) split a doubleheader with the visiting Anderson University Lady Trojans (9-13) Tuesday afternoon at the PC Softball Complex. PC was victorious in the first game, 9-1 in five innings. The second game was a scoring frenzy, with Anderson coming out on top, 19-10. In the first game, PC out hit the Lady Trojans, 13-4. PC struck first early in the first inning on a double by Jessica Peterka. The Lady Blue Hose never looked back after they went up 6-0 in the second inning. Their five-run second inning was led off by a solo homer by freshman Ashley Ford. Ford hit a second homer in the bottom of the fourth. The Lady Trojans' lone run came on a home run by Kayla Thrasher in the top of the fourth. PC was led at the plate by senior Shannon Vining. Vining registered three hits and two RBI in four appearances at the plate. Freshman Amber Patterson went the distance for the Lady Blue Hose allowing only four hits and one earned run. Fallon Downs got the loss for the Trojans. In the second game, Presbyterian jumped out to an early lead, scoring nine runs in the first three innings, highlighted by a pair of back-to-back doubles by Vining and sophomore Kellyn Henderson in the first inning and a two-run homer by Peterka in the second inning. Anderson went on a 17-run tear in the last three innings to take the second game, 19-10. Three Lady Trojans homered in the last three innings. Maranda Sialmas, Kayla Williams and Stephanie Griffis all hit homers in the final innings of the second game. PC went through five pitchers trying to halt the 17-run attack by the Lady Trojans. Relief pitcher Erin Stewart got the loss for PC, and Griffis picked up the win for Anderson. Thrasher and Williams both have seven home runs this season.
