BELMONT, N.C. -- Anderson University used two clutch home runs to sweep a pair of CVAC softball games at Belmont Abbey Tuesday afternoon. Kayla Williams hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning to give Anderson a 5-3 victory in the first game. In the second game, Maranda Sialmas hit a three-run homer in the seventh to lead Anderson to an 8-5 victory. The Lady Trojans took a 2-0 lead in the first inning of the opener, but Belmont Abbey fought back to take a 3-2 lead in the third. Cameron Greene hit a solo homer and then Jessica Inman and Katie Schafer both scored on a single by Erica Rutledge. Anderson tied the game at 3 in the sixth and won the game in the top of the seventh. A two-out single gave the Trojans a base runner and Williams followed with a two-run homer for the 5-3 victory. The home run was No. 11 for Williams. Inman got the Abbey off to a good start in the second game with a leadoff triple. She scored when Amy Sturch reached on an error. Anderson made it 2-1 in third and then 4-1 in the fourth. Belmont Abbey scored to cut the Anderson lead to 4-2 in the fourth and then took a 5-4 lead in the sixth after a two-run home run by Leigh Carter and a RBI single. The Crusaders had the bases loaded with two outs but failed to push another run across. The Lady Trojans came through in the seventh once again, this time scoring four runs to get the win. Fallon Downs hit a triple and scored with one out and then Sialmas hit a three-run homer to clinch it. After hitting just nine home runs in the 2005, the Lady Trojans have hit 35 homers in 31 games this season. Anderson improves 14-17 overall and 6-2 in the CVAC, while Belmont Abbey falls to 8-21, 0-2. 2006 Anderson University Softball Statistics
