Softball Team Sweeps Mount Olive

ANDERSON, S.C. - Melissa Waters hit a three-run homer to cap a five-run fourth inning and lead Anderson University to a 9-4 victory over Mount Olive in the second game and a sweep of a CVAC softball doubleheader Sunday afternoon at Smethers Field. In the first game, Melissa Carmichael was 3-for-3 and drove in three runs to lead the Lady Trojans to a 12-4 victory in five innings. The sweep improves Anderson to 16-17 overall and 8-2 in the CVAC, while Mount Olive falls to 16-19, 0-8. Anderson has won four straight and five of its last seven. Mount Olive used two Anderson errors to score three runs in the first inning of the first game. But a run-scoring double by Carmichael and an infield error gave Anderson a 4-3 lead after two innings. Anderson scored two runs in the third and three runs in both the fourth and fifth to end the game. Waters had a two-run single in the fourth. Anderson finished the first game with 12 hits to six for Mount Olive. Anderson took command of the second game with a five-run fourth. With one out, Maranda Sialmas reached on an error, Kayla Williams singled, and Kayla Thrasher singled to score Sialmas and increase the Anderson lead to 5-2. Allison Cromer followed Thrasher with a two-run double, and Waters cleared the bases with a home run to give Anderson a 9-2 lead.
