Softball Team Opens CVAC Play With Sweep

LAURINBURG, N.C. -- Anderson University collected 17 total hits and scored nine runs in the second inning on its way to a 14-6 victory over St. Andrews Presbyterian College in five innings in the second game and a sweep of a CVAC doubleheader Saturday afternoon. In the first game, Maranda Sialmas had an RBI single and Kayla Williams had an RBI double in the 10th inning to lead Anderson to a 4-3 victory. Anderson improves to 7-7 overall and 2-0 in the CVAC. The nine-run inning in the second game featured a three-run triple by Sialmas and a run-scoring triple by Melissa Waters. Sialmas and Waters finished the game with three RBI apiece for the Lady Trojans. Anderson had nine doubles in the two games to increase its season total to 28. Ellen Steele had two of Anderson's four doubles in the first game, while Christina Hendricks and Williams had two doubles apiece in the second game. Stephanie Griffis went the distance for Anderson in the first game. She scattered 10 hits and allowed just two earned runs in 10 innings.
