ANDERSON, S.C. -- Meg Barker pitched a complete game six-hitter in the first game and allowed just three hits in five innings of relief in the second game to lead Queens University of Charlotte to a sweep of Anderson University in a CVAC softball doubleheader Wednesday afternoon at Smethers Field. Queens improves to 19-13 overall and 10-0 in the CVAC. Anderson is now 16-19, 8-4. In the first game, the Royals scored two runs in the third, fourth, and seventh innings and got a complete game from Barker for a 6-3 victory. In the second game, Queens rallied from a 3-0 first-inning deficit to pull out a 5-3 victory. Two errors allowed the Royals to score two unearned runs in the third inning of the first game. In the fourth, Erin Crager and Ricci Coultas both provided two-out RBI singles. In the seventh, Audra Littlejohn and Erika Brummel both had RBI singles. Trailing 4-1 entering the bottom of the sixth, the Lady Trojans put together a one-out rally. Kayla Williams walked, Kayla Thrasher singled, and Christina Hendricks walked to load the bases. Melissa Waters followed Hendricks with a double to left to score Williams and Thrasher, but Hendricks was cut down at the plate. A fly out left Waters at third with Anderson trailing, 4-3. After giving up two runs in the top of the seventh, Anderson tried to rally again in the bottom half of the inning. The Lady Trojans loaded the bases with two outs, but Barker struck out Thrasher to end the game. Barker struck out 10 in the first game. Kari Kmetic led Queens' offense in the first game with three hits. In the second game, Thrasher hit a three-run homer in the first inning, her eighth of the season, to stake Anderson to a 3-0 lead. Queens got one run back with a double by Mary Lee Giurintano and an infield error in the second and tied the game at 3 in the third on a two-run homer by Danielle Woodford. A one-out walk, a single by Cynthia Ochoa, and an outfield error gave the Royals a 4-3 lead in the fourth. Queens scored another unearned run in the seventh when Crager reached on an error, stole second, and scored on a squeeze bunt by Woodford. Barker entered in the third inning of the second game and allowed just three singles as she blanked the Lady Trojans in the final five innings to earn her second victory of the day. 2006 Anderson University Softball Statistics
