Williams Hits Two To Give Anderson A Split

BANNER ELK, N.C. -- Freshman catcher Kayla Williams hit two home runs in the second game to lead Anderson University to a 3-2 victory over Lees-McRae and a split of a CVAC doubleheader Sunday. Williams, who is No. 8 in the Division II in home runs per game, now has 16 home runs this season. Williams hit a two-run homer in the third and a solo shot in the fifth. Anderson also received a strong pitching performance in the second game from Stephanie Griffis. Griffis allowed just four hits and struck out nine. In the first game, Greta Turner hit a three-run homer in the fifth inning to give Lees-McRae a come-from-behind 5-4 victory. A two-run double by Christina Hendricks in the second, a unearned run in the fourth, and an RBI single by Melissa Waters in the fifth gave Anderson a 4-2 lead. After Turner's shot, Anderson had runners reach second base in both the sixth and seventh, but the Lady Trojans could not push across the tying run. Anderson is now 19-26 overall and 11-7 in the CVAC, while Lees-McRae stands at 10-18, 6-10. 2006 Anderson University Softball Statistics
