ANDERSON, S.C. -- Melissa Waters was 3-for-3, including a two-run triple in the bottom of the sixth inning, to lead Anderson College to a 10-6 victory over Erskine in the second game and a split of a CVAC doubleheader Thursday afternoon at Smethers Field. In the first game, Erskine's Ashley Lafontaine was 4-for-4 with three RBI and Kim Gunter pitched a four-hitter to lead Erskine to a 4-3 victory. Anderson now stands at 16-35 overall and 9-7 in the CVAC, while Erskine is 19-13, 9-3. The Flying Fleet jumped on Anderson in the second game, scoring five runs in the first three innings to seize a 5-0 lead. Amanda Petrocelli had a two-run single in the first and Amy Miller had a two-run double in the third for the Fleet. But after getting roughed up early, Anderson pitcher Stephanie Griffis settled down and limited Erskine to one run and two hits -- both singles -- in the final four innings. Anderson started its rally in the bottom of the third with four runs. Cindy Crosby drove in two runs with a triple then scored on a triple by Rachel Lawrence. Lawrence scored the fourth run of the inning on a wild pitch. The Lady Trojans tied the game at 5 in the fourth on a lead-off triple by Fallon Downs and a run-scoring single by Waters. After an RBI single by Lafontaine gave Erskine a 6-5 lead in the sixth, Anderson rallied one more time in the home half of the sixth. Downs had an RBI single, Waters had a two-run triple, and Lindsay Crump had an RBI single. A three-base error on Crump's single gave Anderson a 10-6 lead. Anderson finished the second game with 12 hits. In the first game, the Lady Trojans scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game at 3. The Fleet scored what proved to be the winning run in the sixth on a lead-off single by Petrocelli, a sacrifice, and a two-out single by Lafontaine. Gunter struck out seven and walked just one to pick up the victory for Erskine in the first game. Erskine outhit Anderson in the first game, 9-4. Anderson College Softball Season Statistics
