GREENEVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tusculum College softball team slugged 10 runs in game one en route to a sweep of Anderson College Tuesday afternoon in the home opener at Edmonds Field. In the second game, Tusculum pulled out a 3-2 victory over Anderson. Tusculum opened the first game by scoring seven runs in the first inning, highlighted by a two-run home run by junior Crystal Clay. Four of the runs that inning were unearned thanks to three Lady Trojan errors. Anderson got back in the game in its next at bat on a three-run homer by sophomore Kristen Price, but the Pioneers added runs in the second, third and fifth to go up 10-3. Freshman Sarah Moder went four innings for the win (2-1), giving up two hits and three earned runs in four innings. Fellow freshman Monica Funigiello earned the save. Anderson sophomore Ashley Rogers took the loss. After a slugfest in the first game, the two teams settled down and had a pitcher's duel in the second game. Tusculum scored all three of its runs in the first three innings, crossing the plate twice in the first and once more in the third. The Lady Trojans cut the lead to 3-2 on another round-tripper from Price in the sixth but was unable to threaten after that. Freshman Candace Allwardt earned the win in relief (2-1), allowing both runs and four hits in four innings. Anderson freshman Fallon Downs gave up just one earned run and seven hits, and retired nine of the last 10 batters. Tusculum (4-2) competes this weekend at the Armstrong Atlantic State University Crossover in Savannah, Ga. Anderson (2-6) hosts Southern Wesleyan University Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m. Release Courtesy of Tusculum Sports Information AC Softball Season Statistics
