Softball Team Shuts Out Barton Twice

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Ashley Rogers limited Barton to three hits in the first game, and Fallon Downs and Stephanie Griffis combined for a four-hitter in the second game to lead Anderson College to a pair of 1-0 CVAC victories over the Bulldogs Saturday afternoon. Anderson, 7-11 overall and 3-1 in the CVAC, received a strong performance from Rogers in the first game. Rogers, a sophomore from Liberty, allowed just three hits and struck out four. She faced just 24 batters and did not allow a Barton runner past second base. Anderson scored its run in the top of the fourth on a walk to Rachelle Lawrence, a single by Kristen Price, a ground out, and a passed ball. Anderson finished the first game with four hits. In the second game, Downs wiggled out of a one-out, bases-loaded jam in the fifth then turned the game over to Griffis, who pitched two hitless innings to earn the save. Anderson scored its run in the top of the fifth. After Carolyn Smith singled, Christina Hendricks sacrificed pinch-runner Melissa Carmichael to second. Carmichael moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a suicide squeeze bunt by Melissa Waters. Anderson had five hits in the second game to four for Barton. The two losses drop Barton to 1-3, 0-2. AC Softball Season Statistics
