ANDERSON, S.C. -- Christine Gisler pitched a four-hit shutout and Brooke Henson scored three runs to lead Augusta State to a 7-0 victory over Anderson College in the second game and a sweep of a non-conference doubleheader Wednesday afternoon at Smethers Field. In the first game, Augusta State's Amy Dumas struck out 18 and allowed just three hits, but the Jaguars had to survive a late Anderson rally to pull out a 3-2 victory in eight innings. Augusta State, 24-12 overall, is now 4-0 against Anderson this season. The two losses drop Anderson to 14-33. Dumas was in total command in the first game. She struck out the side in four of the first six innings and took a 2-0 lead to the seventh. Augusta State got what proved to be an important run in the top of the seventh when Leigh Robbins led off the inning with a solo home run. In the bottom of the seventh, Anderson scratched out two runs to tie the game at 2. Maranda Passmore led off with a walk. After a strikeout, Kristen Price doubled down the left field line to put runners at second and third. After Carolyn Smith walked and Passmore scored on a wild pitch, Stephanie Griffis singled to score Price and tie the game. But Anderson could not push the winning run across. A pop up and a strikeout ended the threat. In the top of the eighth, Tiffany Pate started the inning on second, moved to third on a sacrifice, and scored on a pop up in short left field. Anderson tried to rally again in the bottom of the eighth. The Lady Trojans had the bases loaded with two outs, but Dumas struck out Price to end the game. In the second game, Augusta State scored three runs in the first inning and never looked back. Leigh Schneider had an RBI ground out and Henson and Robbins had back-to-back doubles in the inning. The Jaguars added a single run in the third on an RBI single by Michelle Weirauch, and three more in the fifth on run-scoring singles by Courtney Smith and Pate and a passed ball. Gisler struck out three and walked two to earn the victory. Anderson tried to break up the shutout in the seventh. The Lady Trojans had runners at second and third with one out but two ground outs preserved Gisler's shutout. Anderson College Softball Season Statistics
