Softball Team Splits With Limestone

GAFFNEY, S.C. -- The Limestone College softball team (18-23, 9-3) split a CVAC doubleheader with Anderson College (15-34, 8-6) Tuesday afternoon. The Lady Trojans took game one 4-2, but Keisha Powell tossed a one-hitter in game two and Limestone took a 3-0 win. In game one, Limestone got on the board first with an unearned run in the bottom of the third. Anderson fired right back with a pair of unearned runs in the top of the fourth to take a 2-1 lead. A two-run home run from Kristen Price put the Trojans up 4-1 in the fifth. Heather Wood cut the deficit to two with her first of two home runs on the day, a solo-shot in the bottom of the sixth. Ashley Rogers earned the win allowing just two runs (one earned) on four hits in seven innings. Elizabeth Hawkins (5-11) took the loss, allowing four runs (two earned) on nine hits. In game two, Limestone pitcher Keisha Powell held the Lady Trojans hitless through four innings before Carolyn Smith led off the fifth inning with a single through the right side. Powell worked out of the inning with no damage and did not allow another base-runner. Meanwhile, Stephanie Griffis shut the Saints out for five innings. In the sixth, Wood led off with her second homer of the day. After Missy Hampson singled, Jessica Brown homered to give Limestone a 3-0 lead. Powell (10-9) recorded the final three outs in order to earn her fifth win in as many tries. Brown went 2-for-2 with 2 RBI and a run scored for Limestone.
