Presbyterian Sweeps Anderson In Softball

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Presbyterian College collected 15 hits and had two three-run innings on its way to a 9-3 victory over Anderson College and a sweep of a non-conference doubleheader Friday afternoon at Smethers Field. In the first game, Rachel Bailey had a two-run single in the sixth and the Blue Hose survived a late rally attempt by Anderson to give PC a 3-2 victory. Presbyterian is now 6-2, while Anderson falls to 4-8. In the first game, Anderson scratched out single runs in the third and fifth for a 2-1 lead through five innings. Presbyterian scored what proved to be the winning runs in the sixth on singles by Katie Fite and Olivia Gordon, a walk, a two-out, two-run single by Bailey. In the bottom of the seventh, Lindsay Crump reached on an error and Maranda Passmore singled. Crump stole third and Passmore advanced to second to put the winning run in scoring position with two outs. But Kristen Price grounded out to end the game. In the second game, Jessica Peterka had three hits and drove in two runs and Amanda Carvajal and Tina Deveaux drove in two runs apiece to lead the Blue Hose to a 9-3 victory. Peterka had two doubles and scored two runs. Anderson led 2-1 after one inning, but Presbyterian scored two in the second, three in the third, and three in the fourth to take control of the game. Jessica Flanagan went the distance for Presbyterian in the second game. She scattered seven hits, struck out two, and walked one. AC Softball Season Statistics
