Softball Team Blanks SWU Twice

ANDERSON, S.C. - Kristen Price and Carolyn Smith drove in two runs apiece and Fallon Downs pitched a one-hit shutout to lead Anderson College to a 6-0 victory in the second game and a sweep of a softball doubleheader against Southern Wesleyan Wednesday afternoon at Smethers Field. In the first game, Ashley Rogers pitched a five-inning no hitter and Maranda Passmore drove in three runs to lead Anderson to a 8-0 victory in five innings. Rogers allowed just one Southern Wesleyan batter to reach base on a first-inning error. After the error, she struck out eight and retired 14 straight to close out the game. Anderson scored two runs in the first on run-scoring doubles by Passmore and Price. After adding a single run in the second, Anderson sent 10 batters to plate and scored five runs in the fourth. Passmore had a two-run single, and Rachelle Lawrence had an RBI double in the inning. Anderson finished the first game with 14 hits. In the second game, Anderson scored four runs in the first and two in the second and then rode the pitching of Downs, who struck out four and did not allow a Southern Wesleyan runner to reach second base. The big hits in the first inning were a two-run single by Smith and an RBI single by Price. In the second inning, Lawrence and Price provided RBI singles. The sweep improves Anderson's to 4-6.
