Anderson, Tusculum Split Softball Doubleheader

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Rachel Lawrence had an RBI double, an RBI triple and scored one run to lead Anderson College to a 5-2 victory over Tusculum in the second game of a doubleheader Tuesday afternoon at Smethers Field. In the first game, Sarah Moder limited Anderson to two hits and Nicole Ringwall provided an RBI triple in the third inning to lead the Pioneers to a 2-0 victory. Anderson, 13-22 overall, surrendered a single run in the top of the first inning of the second game then scored three runs in the bottom half of the inning. Maranda Passmore, Carolyn Smith, and Lawrence had consecutive RBI doubles in the first inning. After allowing a single run in the first, Anderson pitcher Ashley Rogers allowed just four hits and one run in the final six innings. Moder was dominant in the first game. She struck out five and allowed just one Anderson runner to reach third base -- a triple by Cindy Crosby in the sixth. But a strikeout and a fly out stranded Crosby at third. Tusculum scored both of its runs in the third inning on a lead off single by Crystal Clay, a one-out triple by Ringwall, and a run-scoring single by Stephanie McKee.
