Softball Team Improves To 6-2 In CVAC

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Ashley Rogers pitched a two-hit shutout in the first game and shut down a Lees-McRae rally in the second game to lead Anderson College to a sweep of the Bobcats Friday afternoon at Smethers Field. Anderson won the first game, 2-0, and the second game, 3-2. Anderson improves to 10-16 overall and 6-2 in the CVAC, while Lees-McRae falls to 4-13, 0-4. Anderson scored both of runs in the first game in the third inning. After two outs, Jessica Hoffman singled and Cindy Crosby reached on an error. Maranda Passmore singled to score Hoffman, and Rachel Lawrence doubled to score Crosby. Rogers struck out seven and walked none to pitch her third consecutive conference shutout. In the second game, Rogers came in to relieve Fallon Downs with Anderson clinging to a 3-2 lead. With no outs and runners on second and third, Rogers surrendered a sacrifice fly before striking out Stacy Bess and Talia Freemen to get out of the inning. Anderson scored one run in the first on singles by Passmore and Lawrence and two Bobcat errors. Anderson scored two more runs in the fourth. Passmore doubled and Lawrence singled and hustled to second to open the inning. Passmore scored after the Bobcats committed an error trying to pick her off third. Lawrence scored on a single by Kristen Price. Passmore had five hits and Smith had four hits in the doubleheader for Anderson. Anderson College Softball Season Statistics
