Quillen and Men's and Women's Track and Field Teams Named to USTFCCA All-Academic List

NEW ORLEANS, LA – The Anderson University men's and women's track and field teams were both named to the United States Track & Field and Cross-Country Coaches Association's (USTFCCCA) Division II All-Academic Teams, while Philip Quillen was named an All-Academic Athlete.

The men's team was honored with their 3.46 GPA, with the women being recognized with a 3.65 GPA. These marks ranked both teams in the top-10 in the NCAA. Along with the Trojans, Carson-Newman, Coker, Lenoir-Rhyne, and Lincoln Memorial made the all-academic team list for the SAC, while Carson-Newman, Lenoir-Rhyne, Lincoln Memorial, and Wingate qualified on the men's side.

Quillen, a senior from Spartanburg, S.C., graduated with a 3.58 GPA with his Master of Business Administration. Quillen set the Anderson school record in the 3,000m SC three times this season, all in his last three attempts: Georgia Tech Invitational on Apr. 23 (9:04.69), SAC Outdoor Championships on May 6th (9:04.12), and the Lee Last Chance Meet on May 14th (9:01.39).

"This is a huge honor for both of our programs," said coach Kevin Eagle. "Not only were they named All-Academic, but both teams finished top-10 in the NCAA with their respective GPA's. It is a good feeling to coach great athletes, but it means more to coach some of the smartest athletes in the country!"

Below are the criteria to be named to the USTFCCCA academic teams:

• The cumulative GPA (not 2021-22 academic year, not semester) for all student-athletes on the institution's NCAA Squad List for Indoor and/or Outdoor Track and Field must be 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale, certifiable by the institution's registrar. Institutions utilizing a different GPA scale must convert the GPA to a 4.0 scale using the standard conversion method [GPA/Scale x 4.0].
• Transfer students and/or graduate students are to include only grades earned at the current nominating institution.
• The cumulative GPA of all student-athletes on the institution's NCAA Squad List for Indoor and/or Outdoor Track and Field must be computed by the following method:
1. Total the cumulative number of semester hours or quarter hours earned for all student-athletes on the NCAA Squad List including the most recent grading period.
2. Total the cumulative number of quality points (GPA multiplied by the number of credit hours) earned by all student-athletes including the most recent grading period.
3. Divide the cumulative number of quality points earned by the cumulative number of semester or quarter hours earned.
