ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson University men's track and field team completed day one of the South Atlantic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday (May 5) at the AU Track Complex.
Philip Quillen led the way for the Trojans with a podium finish in the 3000m steeple chase with a time of 9:04.12 to finish third and set a new Anderson school record. He previously set the school record on Apr. 23 at the Georgia Tech Invitational, winning the event in a time of 9:04.69.
Daniel Similton recorded a top-10 finish at a pace of 9:56.11. In the field, Simeon Respress finished sixth in the high jump (1.85m) and seventh in the long jump (6.89m). Thomas Sutcliffe (3:56.20) and Spain Vaughan (3:56.22) each ran qualifying times in the 1500m. The men's 4x100 relay team consisting of Respress, Zach Cannon, Hunter Norman, and Ben Molitor finished 10th in a time of 43.81.
In the 10000m, Ty Nelson finished inside the top-10 at a pace of 31:44.25. Patrick Berlejung was a step behind at 32:00.83 to finish 11th. Jonathan Roberts (33:00.55) took 15th, while David Williams (34:23.81) and Ben Clark (34:29.68) finished 19th and 20th, respectively.
"We had a fantastic day one as we had several qualify for tomorrow's finals and had multiple athletes set personal bests," said coach Kevin Eagle. "This sets us up for an exciting day two!"
