ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson University men's track and field team was tied for eighth in the South Atlantic Conference preseason coaches' poll with Coker, announced by the league office today (Dec. 2).

Carson-Newman University earned the third spot with 107 points, while Limestone University placed fourth in the poll with 98 points and Lenoir-Rhyne University placed fifth with 90 points. Catawba College came in at No. 6 with 86 points, followed by Tusculum University at No. 7 with 74 points, and Coker University and Anderson University in a tie for eighth with 57 points each.

Senior Philip Quillen and freshman Simeon Respress were both named athletes to watch for the indoor season. Quillen, a senior from Spartanburg, S.C., is coming off a third-place finish in the 3,000 steeple with a time of 9:23, which set a school record at the SAC Outdoor Championship. Respress, a freshman from Cornella, Georgia, is poised for a breakout freshman season in the field for the Trojans.

The Trojans are preparing to start the 2021-22 indoor campaign with a pair of meets. The team will be splitting up, with competitions in Clemson, S.C. and Allendale, MI.

"The Clemson Opener will feature numerous Division 1 opponents including Clemson, USC, Florida, Florida State, Texas, and Georgia Tech," said coach Kevin Eagle. "It will be great to see how we stack up against this type of competition."

"Meanwhile at the Grand Valley State Meet, this will also be one of the largest meets in the country this week as it will have most of the top runners in the country in attendance," said Eagle. "It will be a stacked race for all of our athletes going and will show a true sign of our fitness!"

At Clemson, the field events will begin at 10:00 A.M. The action at the GVSU Holiday Open in Allendale Michigan is slated for a 1:00 P.M. start. Results can be found at www.autrojans.com.
