Track and Field Prepares for First Meet of 2022 at Gamecock Opener

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson University men's and women's track and field teams are preparing for their first indoor meet of 2022 as they travel to Columbia, S.C. for the Gamecock Opener.

On December 3rd of 2021, the Trojans split up for different meets at the Clemson Opener, and the Grand Valley State University Holiday Open in Allendale, Michigan.

The men impressed at the Clemson Opener, as freshman Simeon Respress led the way for the Trojans by finishing in seventh place in the high jump with 1.87m. Respress also impressed in the long jump with a total of 6.41m. David Williams recorded a top-10 finish in the 3000m with a time of 9:17.02. Ben Molitor came in eighth place in the 400m dash (52.27) while Hunter Norman was close behind at 53.22 for a ninth place finish.

For the women, Kamryn Osterbind won the 800m and set a school record with a time of 2:17.51. The second, third, and fourth place finishers were also Trojans: Brianna Quartararo (2:20.34), Lauren Childers (2:24.60), and Autumn Bladen (2:31.13).

The women's 4x400 relay team consisting of Joeli Hayden, Brianna Quartararo, Kamryn Osterbind, and Lacey Boozer set a new school record for the Trojans with a total time of 4:02.65. At the GVSU Holiday Open, Olivia Rish also set a school record in the 3000m with a time of 9:59.88.

"The first meet back from winter break is always a time to see how fit each athlete is," said coach Kevin Eagle. "It will give the coaches an idea on what we need to work on going forward. There will be some solid competition on Saturday, so I'm excited to see our teams compete with the best of them!"

Field events are scheduled to begin at 10:00 AM, with the runners getting started at 11:00 AM at the Gamecock Opener. Live results can be found at www.autrojans.com.
