Spain Vaughan Sets 3,000m AU School Record

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The Anderson University men's track and field team had another great day on the track at the Buccaneer Invitational in Johnston City, Tennessee on Saturday (Feb. 5).

Freshman Spain Vaughan continued his outstanding freshman season by breaking another Anderson school record, this time in the 3000m with a mark of 8:27.22. Philip Quillen (8:34.34), Daniel Similton (8:39.60), and Ty Nelson (8:55.85) also ran the event for the Trojans. Thomas Sutcliffe (4:26.17) and Jonathan Roberts (4:26.52) finished in the top-40 in the mile run, while David Mahnke completed the 800m in 2:02.99.

"Both teams performed great today," said coach Kevin Eagle. "We ended the busy weekend with 12 personal bests and one school record. The majority of the team will have the next two weeks off to focus on training as we prepare for our indoor conference championships. A small group will be flying to Michigan next week to chase some NCAA national qualifying times. As of right now, this has been the best indoor season in program history. The next month of training and racing will be exciting!"

The Trojans will be back in action next Friday (Feb. 11) as they travel to Allendale, Michigan for the GVSU Big Meet. Results can be found at www.autrojans.com.
