Men’s Tennis Team Earns Athletic Department’s Highest Academic Honor

ANDERSON, S.C. – After finishing a close second to the women's cross country team last spring, the Anderson University men's tennis team has edged the volleyball squad for top academic honors following the fall semester, as announced by the department on Thursday afternoon.

After the women's cross country squad claimed the accolade for a departmental-record eighth time in the spring, the men's tennis team broke through last semester to become the first men's team in the 12-year history of the award to post the department's highest GPA, with a stellar 3.65 mark.

The Dr. Shirley Jacks Award is given to the team that possesses the highest grade point average at the end of each semester and the team will be presented the trophy at an athletic event during the spring.

Nearly every team achieved at least a 3.0 GPA for the semester.

"We are very proud of our student-athletes' academic accomplishments," said Director of Athletics Bill D'Andrea." "They have a lot of demands on their time and have to balance a very rigorous schedule – both academically and athletically."
