AU Takes Third Game From St. Andrews

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Anderson University collected five extra base hits on its way to a 9-3 victory over St. Andrews Presbyterian Sunday afternoon at Anderson Memorial Stadium. The victory gave Anderson, 18-20 overall and 8-7 in the CVAC, a sweep of the three-game series. St. Andrews falls to 12-24, 3-12. Anderson has now won four straight and six of its last eight. Kyle Lewis' two-run double sparked a Trojan rally in the first inning. Lewis scored on a sacrifice fly by John Mac White to make it a 3-0 game. Anderson increased its lead to 5-0 with two more runs in the second. The big hit in the inning was an RBI triple by Blair Carson. But St. Andrews bounced back with two unearned runs in the fifth and one unearned run in the sixth to slice the Anderson lead to 5-3. In the Anderson sixth, another triple by Tony Graham scored B.J. Smith to give the Trojans a 6-3 lead. Anderson capped its scoring in the eighth on a run-scoring single by Graham and a two-run double by Jonathan Pitts. Brady Peele allowed five hits and three unearned runs in 6 2/3 innings to earn the win for the Trojans. B.J. Horne was saddled with the loss for the Knights. The Trojans finished the game with 14 hits. Anderson was led offensively by Smith, who was 3-for-4 with three runs scored, and by Graham, who was 3-for-4 with two RBI.
