MARS HILL, N.C. -- Anderson University rallied for three runs in the top of the ninth inning and held on to beat Mars Hill 6-5 Wednesday afternoon. The victory was Anderson's second one-run victory over Mars Hill this season. Trailing 5-3 entering the ninth, the Trojans scored three runs on four hits to take a 6-5 lead. With one out, Andrew Davis hit a pinch-hit home run to cut the Mars Hill lead to 5-4. After Davis' homer, Tony Graham was hit by a pitch and B.J. Smith singled. Clint Neville then singled to score Graham and tie the game at 5. After John Mac White reached on a fielder's choice to put runners at first and third, Blair Carson singled to bring home Smith with what proved to be the winning run. The victory improves Anderson to 11-16, while Mars Hill falls to 4-18. B.J. Scarborough picked up the win (2-0) in relief, while Brandon Sheriff got his second save of the season. After four scoreless innings Clarke Rollins singled to score David DeSilva and give MHC a 1-0 lead. Anderson took a 2-1 lead in the top half of the sixth frame on three hits and one Lion error. Danny Miller then put the Lions back on top by belting a three-run homer to left in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Lions then added another run in the seventh inning when Matt Carter singled to left field to drive in Rollins. Anderson trimmed the Lions' advantage to 5-3 in the eighth when Clint Neville hit a solo homerun to lead off the inning. The teams combined for 25 hits in the game. Neville was 3-for-5 with two RBI and a homerun to lead Anderson offensively. Josh Harrison finished the day with two hits. Miller was 2-for-5 with three RBI and a home run to lead MHC at the plate.
