Anderson Splits DH With Brevard

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Anderson University pounded out 15 hits and scored 13 runs to win the first game 13-1, but Brevard bounced back to take the second game, 7-4, in a non-conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Anderson Memorial Stadium. Brevard opened the scoring in the first game with an RBI double by Seth Corliss that scored Luke Lovelace in the first inning, but that would be Brevard's lone run as senior pitcher Gib Bethea settled in. Bethea faced 27 batters, scattered five hits and struck out six in his six innings of work to earn the win. Lovelace took the loss for the Tornados. The Trojans scored four runs in bottom of the first highlighted by a two-run triple to right center by Blair Carson. Anderson added four more runs in the third on five hits to make it 8-1. The big inning for the Trojans was the fifth when they sent 11 batters to the plate and scored five runs to make it 13-1. The inning was highlighted by a two-run double by Tony Graham. Carson led the Trojans offensively in the first game by going 3-for-3 with four RBI, and by Graham, who was 2-for-3 with three RBI. Corliss led the Tornados by going 2-for-4 with an RBI. In the second game, the Tornados took advantage of some sloppy Trojan defense to score two runs in the first and one run in the second inning. Josh Miller's two-run double made it 5-0 game. The Trojans scored one run in the third and one in the fourth to make it 5-2. They added two more in the sixth on three hits, but the Tornados answered with two insurance runs in the seventh to increase their lead to 7-4. Brooks Owenby picked up the win, while Brady Peele was saddled with the loss. Clint Neville led the Trojans offensively in the second game by reaching base safely in his three plate appearances and by driving in two runs. The Tornados were led offensively by Miller, who was 2-for-3 with three RBI. The Trojans are now 14-19 overall. The two teams will play the final game of the three game series Sunday in Brevard at 2 p.m. Anderson University Baseball Season Statistics
