SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Demetrius Jordan singled home Anthony Mehling with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to give St. Andrews a 6-5 victory over Anderson in the 2004 CVAC Tournament Saturday afternoon at Duncan Park. The Knights (24-26) trailed 5-2 through six innings but scored single runs in the seventh and eighth and two runs in the ninth to eliminate the Trojans (20-35) from the tournament. With one out in the St. Andrews ninth, Will Clark singled, advanced to second on a ground out, and scored the tying run on Mehling's single. Mehling advanced to second on the throw home and reached third when the throw home went over the head of Anderson catcher Jason Jones. After a walk, Jordan, who was 2-for-5 with two RBI, hit a shot to the base of the right field wall to bring home Mehling with the winning run. Kevin Smith (2-3) allowed two hits in two innings of scoreless relief to pick up the victory for the Knights. Jordan hit his 12th home run of the season in the bottom of the eighth to pull the Knights within one - 5-4. A solo home run by Clark cut the Anderson lead to 5-3 in the bottom of the seventh. John Mac White hit his third homer of the year in the sixth to increase the Anderson lead to 5-2. The Trojans took a 4-2 lead in the fifth on consecutive doubles by Jared Taylor and Jason Ratliff and a two-run single by Jason Jones. Anderson tied the game at 2 in the fourth on a double by Donavon Schmidt and home run by F.A. Vildosola. The Knights added a single run in the third to up their lead to 2-0 on a leadoff walk to Brandon Taylor and singles by Mehling and Everett Kelly. St. Andrews scored a single run in the first on a double by Brad Smith and a single by Mehling. Anderson had 15 hits to 11 for St. Andrews. Final 2004 Statistics
