Anderson Shuts Down Lander, 4-2

ANDERSON, S.C. - Three Anderson College pitchers limited Lander to two hits in the final seven innings to lead the Trojans to a 4-2 non-conference victory over the Bearcats Wednesday night at Anderson Memorial Stadium. Anderson, 17-29 overall, fell behind 2-0 in the top of the first inning, but then Anderson relievers Adam Dymond, Brett Youngblood, and Will Cheatham combined to blank the Bearcats in the final seven innings. Dymond, 1-2 overall, allowed no runs and two hits in four innings and struck out four to pick up the victory. Youngblood allowed no runs and no hits in one inning of work, and Cheatham pitched two scoreless innings to earn the save. Anderson collected 10 hits against three Lander pitchers. Caleb Owen and Jared Taylor led the Trojans with two hits apiece. Joe Whitham entered the game in the sixth as a pinch-hitter and had one hit and scored two of Anderson's four runs. The loss drops Lander to 29-17 overall. Jason Spivey and David Walton had two hits apiece for the Bearcats, who managed just six hits. Leading 3-2, Anderson picked up an insurance run in the eighth. Whitham led off with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice by Seth Thompson, moved to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a two-out pinch-hit single by Cody Nye The Trojans took a 3-2 lead in the sixth. With one out, Whitham, pinch-hitting for John Mac White, walked, moved to second on a wild pitch, advanced to third on a ground out, and scored on a single to right center by Kyle Lewis. Anderson tied the game at 2 in the fifth. With two outs, Owen reached on an infield single and scored on a triple to right by Taylor. A single to center by Jason Ratliff brought home Taylor to tie the game. The Bearcats used three singles and a walk to take a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Anderson will play at Brevard (N.C.)
