Schmidt Tortures Brevard To Lead AC To 10-4 Win

BREVARD, N.C. -- Donavon Schmidt had two doubles, a home run and drove in five runs to lead Anderson College to a 10-4 non-conference victory over Brevard Thursday afternoon. Schmidt, a junior from Hilton Head, had a two-out, three-run double in the fifth, and a two-run homer in the seventh. Caleb Owen also had three hits for Anderson, while Justin Sterling, Joe Whitham, and Jessie Whiteside had two hits apiece for the Trojans, who collected a total of 14 hits. Nate Miller allowed five hits and three runs in six innings to pick up the victory for Anderson. Brevard took a 1-0 lead in the first, but Anderson answered with a three-run second. Whiteside and Owen both had RBI singles in the inning. Anderson extended its lead to 6-1 with Schmidt's three-run double in the fifth. After Brevard scored two runs in the fifth, Schmidt got those back with one swing in the seventh. Anderson, 18-29 overall, closes out the CVAC regular season this Saturday and Sunday at Belmont Abbey.
