Kennesaw State Survives AC Ninth-Inning Rally

KENNESAW, Ga. -- Anderson College rallied for eight runs in the top of the ninth inning against Kennesaw State but it wasn't enough as the Owls managed to hang on for a 14-13 non-conference victory Tuesday night. Anderson, 11-25 overall, trailed 14-5 entering the ninth inning but the Trojans collected six hits to go with three walks and a balk to generate eight runs against three Kennesaw pitchers. In the inning, Brian Cato had a two-run single, Donavon Schmidt had a run-scoring single, and Jason Ratliff and F.A. Vildosola both brought home runs with bases-loaded walks. Six of the eight runs in the inning were scored after two outs. After Caleb Owen scored on a bases-loaded walk to cut the Owl lead to 14-12, Schmidt reached on a wild pitch third strike, which allowed the eighth run of the inning to score. But the rally finally ended on the 15th batter when Kyle Lewis grounded out to end the game. Ratliff and Jared Taylor had two hits apiece for Anderson. Kennesaw, 20-15 overall, was led by Kevin Gergel with a 3-run homer and Adrian Colton with a 2-run shot. AC plays host to Augusta State at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
