ANDERSON, S.C. - Jason Ratliff was 4-for-4 and drove in five runs and Caleb Owen also had four hits in four trips and drove in three runs to lead Anderson College to a 15-7 victory over Erskine College in a CVAC game Friday night at a chilly and windy Anderson Memorial Stadium. Ratliff, a senior from Prosperity, S.C., had an RBI single in the second, a two-run single in the fifth, and a two-triple in the eighth. He now has 33 RBI in 35 games this season and raised his average to .304. Owen, a junior from Westminster, S.C., had an RBI single in the fourth, a sacrifice fly in the fifth, and run-scoring double in the eighth. The Trojans collected 17 hits against four Erskine pitchers. Erskine pitchers also walked eight and hit two. Anderson, 12-25 overall and 5-10 in the CVAC, snapped a three-game losing streak. The loss drops Erskine to 25-16, 7-9. Anderson put the game away in the eighth. Five straight hits, capped off by Ratliff's two-run double, gave the Trojans a 14-5 lead. After one out, Ratliff scored on a single by Donavon Schmidt to make it 15-5. A two-run single by Jared Taylor increased the Anderson lead to 10-5 in the sixth. The first two batters reached in the Erskine sixth, but Anderson reliever Dymond entered and got a pop up and double play to keep Anderson's lead at 8-5. Dymond allowed two hits and one earned run in four innings to earn his fourth save. Nat McCarty, who allowed four earned runs through five innings, picked up the victory for Anderson. Trailing 5-4, Anderson scored four times in the fifth for an 8-5 lead. F.A. Vildosola had an RBI single, Owen brought home a run and reach on a sacrifice fly and an error by Erskine right fielder Jeff Gray, and Ratliff had a two-run single. The Fleet put four runs on the board in the fifth to take a 5-4 lead. The big hits in the inning were an RBI double by Shelton Cisson and a two-run triple by Anthony Passalacqua. The Trojans increased their lead to 4-1 in the fourth on a lead off walk to Vildosola, a sacrifice, and a single by Owen, his third hit of the game. Anderson had the bases loaded with one out, but Jason Jones struck out and Schmidt grounded out to end the inning. Anderson took a 3-1 lead in the top of third on a leadoff single by Owen, a sacrifice, an RBI single by Ratliff, a run-scoring double by Jones, and run-scoring single by Kyle Lewis. Erskine broke on top 1-0 in the third on a pair of two-out singles by Cisson and Brett Smagala and a throwing error by Anderson catcher Jason Jones. The two teams will play a doubleheader Saturday beginning at noon. Anderson needs one victory to secure three points in the Anderson-Erskine Cup Sponsored By ARAMARK. The competition for the Cup entered Friday tied at 13 points apiece. Box Score: Anderson 15, Erskine 7 Season Statistics
