Pfeiffer's Tucker Handcuffs Trojans

ANDERSON, S.C. - Greg Tucker pitched a six-hitter and Jeff Robbins had three hits and drove in three runs to lead Pfeiffer to a 7-2 victory over Anderson College in a CVAC game Sunday afternoon at Anderson Memorial Stadium. Tucker, a junior righthander from Midland, N.C., blanked Anderson through eight innings. He struck out six, walked three, and did not allow more than one hit in an inning until the ninth. The Falcons, 28-8 overall and 11-4 in the CVAC, took a 2-0 lead in the second on a single by Robert Scott and a home run to left by Jamie Tucker, who also had three hits for Pfeiffer. Pfeiffer added a single run in the third on three consecutive singles by Brian York, Bryant Parnell, and Jeff Robbins. In the seventh, the Falcons generated a run to make it 4-0. Mark Campbell singled, moved to second on a balk, moved to third on a fly out, and scored on a wild pitch. Anderson, 11-24 and 4-10, tried to get something going in the eighth against Tucker. Jonathan Pitts reached on a fielder's choice and F.A. Vildosola doubled to put runners at second and third with two outs. But pinch-hitter Cody Nye lined out to York, the Falcon shortstop, to end the inning. Pfeiffer put the game away with a three-run ninth against Anderson reliever Will Cheatham. Justin Little singled and moved to second on a sacrifice. After York walked, Parnell provided a run-scoring single and Robbins contributed a two-run single. Anderson starter Nat McCarty, 2-5, struck out three, walked two and allowed 10 hits in eight innings of work. Anderson finally got to Tucker in the ninth. With one out, Jared Taylor and Jason Ratliff both walked. After John Mac White struck out, Donavon Schmidt and Kyle Lewis both singled to drive in one run apiece. Schmidt and Lewis finished the game with two hits apiece. Box Score: Pfeiffer 7, Anderson 2 Season Statistics
