AC Records Best-Ever Finish In Hahn Cup

THOMASVILLE, N.C. -- Three spring sports championships propelled Anderson College to a third-place finish in the Joby Hawn Cup competition, the CVAC office announced Wednesday afternoon. The third-place finish is the best ever for Anderson program. AC has been an official member of the CVAC since 1999. For the second straight year, Barton College won the Hawn Cup, which recognizes overall excellence in all conference-sponsored sports. The Hawn Cup is awarded each year in honor of former Commissioner H.C. "Joby" Hawn for his years of service to the former Carolinas Conference. Hawn Cup points are awarded in each sport based on the order of regular-season finish and the number of participating teams in each sport. Men's & women's golf and men's and women's cross country are the only CVAC sponsored sports in which points are determined by conference tournament finish. Barton College finished with 90.5 points. The Bulldogs received first-place points in women's basketball and women's tennis, and were solid finishers in other sports sponsored by the CVAC. Three schools battled hard for a second place with just one and a half points separating the three in the final standings. For the second consecutive year, Pfeiffer University finished second with 86 points. Anderson used championships in men's tennis, men's golf, and women's golf to finish third with 85 points. Lees-McRae College finished fourth with 84.5 points. Rounding out the Hawn Cup standings in order were Queens University of Charlotte, Belmont Abbey, St. Andrews Presbyterian, Coker, Erskine, Mt. Olive, and Limestone.
