McCurley Named 2022 SAC Volleyball Scholar-Athlete of the Year

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Anderson University's Lindsay McCurley has been voted the 2022 South Atlantic Conference Volleyball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, as announced by the conference office, Thursday afternoon.

The South Atlantic Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year award is presented annually to one student-athlete in each of the Conference's championship sports and is voted on by the SAC's Faculty Athletic Representatives Committee. The winners are selected based on their achievements in academics, athletics, service and leadership.

McCurley, a senior majoring in Elementary Education with an Early Childhood Add-on, has a perfect 4.0 GPA. The three-time CoSIDA Academic All-District® honoree is a member of the Anderson University Dean's List, Chi Alpha Sigma and the SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll, and earned the 2022 SAC Volleyball Elite 23 Award.

"Lindsay has been a true leader, athlete and scholar at Anderson University for the past four seasons," said Anderson head volleyball coach Todd Hay. "She brings a joy and welcoming spirit to all those around her and willingly serves others on our campus community. The team and I are extremely proud of her for winning this award and representing AU in such a positive light. Congratulations, Lindsay!"

The Simpsonville, S.C., native played in all 29 matches this past season and led the team with 332 digs (3.29/set) on the year. She reached double-figure digs a dozen times, including the final five contests of the year and posted a season-high 25 digs at Catawba. McCurley led the Trojans and finished tied for fourth in the league with 41 service aces.

McCurley helped lead the Trojans to 76 victories, four consecutive SAC Tournament appearances and three NCAA Tournament appearances during her career and ranks 10th in the school record books with 127 career aces and 15th in school history with 1,158 career digs.

Off the court, McCurley has been just as active, serving as President of the AU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, which was recently honored for raising the most money of any school in the conference for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. She is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), the AU Education Club, Baptist Collegiate Ministries (BCM) and also serves on the CEC (Council of Exceptional Children Club).

McCurley has served as a substitute teacher with the Greenville County School system and as a camp counselor and club volleyball coach along with volunteering with youth volleyball programs.
