ANDERSON, S.C. - The Lander softball team dropped to .500 on the season Sunday afternoon when the Bearcats lost a non-conference doubleheader at Anderson University. The Trojans won the first game, 4-2, and took the second, 3-2. Anderson improves to 8-5 on the season. In the first game, Anderson's Alex Waldroup earned the win while striking out four, walking four and allowing two earned runs on five hits in the complete seven innings. Lander's Shelly Grimsley suffered the loss, striking out one, walking four and allowing four earned runs on six hits in six innings. For Lander, Lyndsey Sammons went 2-for-3 with one double and one run scored and Sara Senn went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Anderson's Amanda Johnston went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI, while Kinsley Durham went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI. In the second game, with the score tied 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh, Anderson's Kayla Williams stroked an RBI single to win the game. AU's Donya Cobb recorded the victory as she walked two and allowed two earned runs on seven hits in the seven complete innings. The Bearcats' Hayley Leissner took the loss as she struck out five and allowed three earned runs on nine hits in 6.1 innings. For Lander, Senn (2-for-4, one RBI), Daisy Stewart (2-for-3, one run scored), Natalie Smith (1-for-3, one RBI) and Nikki Cumalander (1-for-3, one run) all doubled. Anderson's Meredith Knox led the game off with a solo home run and went 3-for-4 with two runs scored.
