Track and Field Set for Chanticleer Classic

ANDERSON, S.C. - On the heels of last Saturday's Terrier Classic, the Anderson University men's and women's track and field teams are slated to wrap up the regular season by competing at Coastal Carolina's Chanticleer Classic, Saturday at the CCU Track and Field Facility.

The Trojans are coming off impressive outings in Spartanburg, S.C., with juniors Brooklyn Watt and Savanna Keese earning first-place finishes in the discus and hammer throw, respectively. Keese was also 16th in the discus, while sophomore D'Yandra Morris claimed 27th. The hammer throw saw Watt place sixth, while Morris took 12th. Watt was second in the shot put, with Morris claiming third. Keese finished seventh on the shot put and 34th in the javelin throw.

Junior Jill Baxter finished sixth in the high jump, while teammate Megan Shahoud was 11th. Baxter was also 28th in the long jump and Shahoud finished 32nd. Freshman Bari Robinson paced the Trojans in the 1500 meter run by claiming fourth, with junior Sydney Hazel placing seventh and sophomore Devan Fisher crossed the line in 26th.

Sophomore Lauren Averitt was 22nd in the 100 meter dash, while junior Madison Guest brought home 11th in the 400 meter dash. Freshman Sherin Malone was eighth in the 400 meter hurdles.

The freshman trio of Olivia Gardner, Grace Gerlock and Mia Swierzs claimed fifth, sixth and eighth, respectively in the 5000 meter run. The 4x100 meter relay team of Averitt, Baxter, Shahoud and Malone captured eighth, while Baxter, Guest, Malone and Robinson finished ninth in the 4x400 meter relay.

Freshman Thomas Garrigan took fourth in the men's 3000 meter steeplechase, with fellow freshman Philip Degraaf claiming 10th in the pole vault. Junior Joshua Visi-Clark placed 15th in the 400 meter dash, while freshman Caleb Knight claimed 26th. The 110 meter hurdles saw freshman Jonathan Shorter finish 16th, with Malik Brown in 18th. Shorter also finished the 400 meter hurdles in 15th.

Freshman Jesse Patrick claimed 45th in the 1500 meter run, while Eric Hoover placed 19th in the triple jump. Degraaf and Hoover finished 20th and 25th, respectively in the javelin throw. Senior Westley Wilson paced the Trojans with a fifth-place finish in the 5000 meter run, while senior Parks Edwards was just behind in sixth. Freshman Ben Boerma was 11th, with freshman Ned Kennedy claiming 15th. Freshman Michael Burch finished 19th.

The 4x100 meter relay team of Shorter, Brown, Hoover and Caleb Knight claimed ninth, while the 4x400 meter relay combination of Knight, Shorter, Visi-Clark and Hoover finished eighth.

Last year at the Coastal Carolina Invitational, Baxter finished 17th in the high jump and also posted an 18th-place finish in the 400 meter hurdles. The Denver, N.C. native placed 21st in the javelin throw. Teammate Madison Guest earned ninth in the 800 meter run.

Watt claimed fourth in the shot put and finished 13th in the hammer throw at 39.52 meters. Morris earned 15th in the shot put, with Keese earning 12th in the hammer throw, 19th in the discus throw and 21st in the shot put.

For the men, Visi-Clark crossed the line in the 800 meter run 12th, with Parks Edwards notching 17th.
