Trojans Place Three on All-SAC Postseason Teams

ROCK HILL, S.C. - After the 2014 women's tennis regular season wrapped up last Sunday, the South Atlantic Conference has announced on Tuesday its annual postseason teams and honorable mention list, as Anderson University women's tennis has placed three on the All-SAC Second Team squad and the experienced doubles tandem of senior Avery Owens and junior Karen Ching was named to the All-SAC Second Team.

The conference honor is the fifth by Owens, being named to three postseason all-conference teams and two preseason all-conference honors. Owens and Ching polished off the season with a 9-6 record at No. 1, highlighted by a 7-3 mark against SAC opponents. From March 1-April 4, the duo won seven of its eight doubles matches in the span, including four matches against SAC rivals. With the postseason honor, this marks the second straight year the tandem has been named to the second-team doubles list.

Owens and Ching were also named to the second team doubles squad, as Owens concluded her final regular season in the Black and Gold with an even 8-8 record and 7-4 in the conference. After struggling at the No. 1 slot, Owens made the switch to No. 2 where she finished 8-3. Ching, who moved up to No. 1, finished 6-5 at the position and 8-7 overall.

Joining the pair on the second team was freshman Rebecca Bruning who finished the year with a team-high 13 wins at the No. 3 position, while going a perfect 10-0 in the SAC. The Athens, Ga. native won 12 of her 13 matches in straight sets, and capped off the regular season with a three-set win over Queens' Melissa Laing who the SAC Freshman of the Year Award.

The Trojan trio looks to lead AU at this week's SAC Tournament, as fifth-seeded Anderson squares off with fourth-seeded Newberry in the opening round. First serve from the Rock Hill Tennis Center is slated for 10 a.m.
