CHARLOTTE, N.C. - As Anderson University women's tennis enters the final week of its 2014 regular season, the Trojans were unable to head into the 2014 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament with a league win, as they fell to Queens 5-1 Sunday afternoon at Freedom Park.

With the loss, AU falls to an even 8-8 on the season and 7-4 in conference play, while the Royals improve to 14-3 overall and 9-2 within the SAC. Carrying their 7-4 record into the postseason this week, the Trojans earned the No. 5 seed in the conference tournament as they will take on fourth-seeded Newberry on Wednesday in Rock Hill, S.C.

After being shutout in the doubles round, freshman Rebecca Bruning nabbed the lone Anderson point on the day, as she knocked off Queens' Melissa Laing at the No. 2 position. Senior Avery Owens (No. 1) and sophomore Alexandra Ebner (No. 3) dropped straight-set matches, rounding out the singles round.

With her win, Bruning improved to 12-2 for the season and 10-0 in conference matches. The 12 wins on the year currently leads the team as the Athens, Ga. native is the lone Trojan with double figure victories for the season.

Anderson wraps up its regular season with a trip to Fort Mill, S.C. to face Conference Carolinas opponent Belmont Abbey on Tuesday before beginning tournament action on Wednesday. First serve against the Crusaders is set for 4 p.m.
