AU TROJANS TRIUMPH IN CONF CHAMPIONSHIP

MOUNT OLIVE, NC--When Anderson University Lady Trojans' sharp shooter, Keana Boyd, said "we are going to redeem ourselves," and "go all the way," after the final regular season victory over Pfeiffer, the hope was that she would back it up; she did just that, leading her Lady Trojans to four straight tournament victories, earning conference tournament MVP honors, and most importantly, helping AU to a Conference Carolinas tournament title and an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II tournament by beating Mount Olive College on the road, in impressive fashion, 83-60. In two consectutive games, the Lady Trojans have beaten nationally ranked top ten opponents by a combined total of 42 points--regular season conference champion Barton at #7 and Mount Olive at #10. And in his first year at the helm, head coach Jim Brunelli makes the five and a half hour trip home to Anderson, SC with the satisfaction of knowing that his team did what they set out to do. "We've had our ups and downs and we pulled it through," said coach Brunelli. "The main thing was that we always believed in each other; and that's what it's all about." The Lady Trojans believed in themselves to the tune of 5 players scoring in double figures, holding their second straight opponent to a season low shooting percentage, and leading the game wire-to-wire...again. Keana Boyd had a game-high 22. The senior had plenty of help as Kirsten Peterson just missed a double-double with 15 points, 9 grabs, and 3 blocks. Shanice Wilson also had 15, while Alexa Neal had 16 and Ashley Abed came off the bench and put up 12 of her own. Midway through the second half AU broke the game open with a 16-0 run. Boyd scored 18 of her game-high 22 points in the first half to help The Lady Trojans in building a 14-point halftime lead. Boyd was 10-for-10 from the free throw line and Anderson as a team was 25-for-32, as the Lady Trojans continued the trend of driving agressivley to the rack. Anderson has won 11 out of their last 13 games, dating back to February 2. The "redemption" that Keana Boyd spoke of, after the Lady Trojans' final regular season victory, could have been found by overcoming the only two teams that beat AU during that stretch, Mount Olive and Barton--or it could very well be found in winning the Conference Carolinas tournament MVP after only making second team all-conference. Either way, the Lady Trojans are heading to Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, NC on Friday, March 13. There AU will try its hand against the #1 seeded Lady Bears in the first round of the NCAA Division II Regionals. Game time is set for 6pm. Complete Box Score AU Cumulative Season Totals
