GAFFNEY, S.C. - The Anderson University women's basketball team defeated Limestons, 78-72, on Wednesday night at the Timken Center. Limestone falls to 9-10 overall with the loss (7-7 Conference Carolinas) as the Trojans improve to 9-10 overall (9-6 league). Alexa Neal (Greensboro, N.C.) scored a game-high 25 points for Anderson and recorded 7 assists and 5 steals. Kirsten Peterson (Owego, N.Y.) recorded a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Shanice Wilson (Piedmont, S.C.) scored 11 points. Genia Holbrook (Toccoa, Ga.) also had 10 boards. Anderson and Limestone played a tough first half, with neither team leading by more than eight points. There were 10 lead changes in the opening period. Both teams shot 46.4% from the field as each squad was 13 for 28. The Trojans held a narrow 33-32 lead at halftime. Anderson jumped out to a double-digit lead in the second period, and had as much as a 19-point advantage (64-45) at the 8:49 mark, but Limestone fought back, outscoring the Trojans 27-14 in the remaining minutes of the contest. Limestone's efforts came up short as Anderson held the 45-40 scoring edge in the second half for the 78-72 win. The Trojans posted a 59.3 field-goal percentage in the second half (16-27) as Limestone was 13-31 (41.9%). The visiting Trojans out-rebounded the hosts 33-29, and converted 26 points from 22 Limestone turnovers.
